I started listening more closely as I moved through my asanas, which felt so good after not having done yoga in a few months.
These were wonderful directions to help live in a stress-free way. I would like to share my thoughts and give you ideas how you can live your life in a “yoga” way!
Breathe. My instructor asked us to focus on our breathing. How often have I suggested to my clients and friends to stop and take a breath to relieve stress? Stop and make sure you breathe deeply into your lungs. Fill your lungs with the much-needed oxygen and fill your body with this life giving force. Don’t hunch up your shoulders. The way my teacher put it today, was “don’t wear your shoulders as earrings.” How often have we tensed and stayed tensed until our neck, back and shoulders ache? Listen to your body. In yoga, your body will tell you if it can hold a pose and whether you can challenge it at that time. My instructor tells us to rest in child’s pose if we need to. Throughout our own days, we need to listen to our own bodies. If you are tired, you need to hear your body tell you to rest. You need to learn to listen to hear whether you are truly hungry or thirsty. Your body will tell you what it needs. Don’t judge yourself by the other people in the class. Challenge yourself to live the best life you can, for you. Yoga is not a competition. Life doesn’t need to be competitive. There is plenty for all of us and we all need to move and do things in our own way-a way that brings us fulfillment and happiness. Each pose has a counter pose. When you work your body with backbends, you balance this out with a foreword bend. Here it is-the harmony we want in our lives. The balance between work and play, rest and activity, studying and experiencing. Stretch. Feel your body extend itself. Do stretches throughout the day to loosen your muscles and keep your body flexible. Let’s also stretch the mind toward learning and new ideas. Try to do the balance poses, but realize that on some days we will not be as balanced as on other days. Sometimes, we can balance on one side better than on the other side. What if you cut yourself some slack on the days you didn’t feel “balanced” and realize that you may have to take it slower or easier?
Let’s use these ideas in our daily life and see if we can be a little calmer, a little gentler, and a little less stressed at the end of our “yoga day.”

Yoga instruction isn’t limited to the classroom anymore, thanks to the internet. The World Wide Web has opened up a huge new realm of yoga possibilities. Unfortunately, it has opened up a whole new can of worms too!
Along with informative sites by knowledgeable teachers, there’s also a whole lot of incomplete and misleading information being spread by inexperienced yoga enthusiasts. This cut-and-paste cyber world makes it simple for anybody to create a website on any topic, yoga included, and load it up with content that makes the creator seem like they are an authority … when in most cases, they are far from it.
The bottom line about yoga instruction online is, Buyer Beware!
You can definitely learn yoga online … but you don’t want to be careless about it. As with anything online, proper research is your best friend.
Yoga instruction online is not really any different than in the living, breathing world. You need a teacher with adequate knowledge and experience. Unfortunately, that knowledge and experience is lacking in most yoga teachers today … on or offline.
The modern yoga world too often mistakes enthusiastic yoga teachers for knowledgeable ones, and the modern standards of a few hundred hours of yoga teacher training sure don’t help matters. These extremely basic requirements are a terribly insufficient barometer for gauging whether or not someone really does have the understanding and experience to properly teach yoga.
It may seem a lot easier to determine who is a good yoga teacher live and in person then over the internet. But that also relies on you, the student, having enough knowledge and experience to really know the difference. The Bhagavad Gita cautions us that in Kali Yuga, our present worldly age, “great orators are often mistaken for the wise,” and that has certainly become the case in the modern yoga scene.
Amid a sea of yoga junk on the internet today, there are definitely some nuggets of gold … some masters who have taken their immense knowledge and experience of yoga and are applying it through modern technology in unique and valuable ways. Sorting through the massive online yoga universe to find them takes work … but once you do, I’m sure you’ll feel that it was time and effort well spent.

It is true that Yoga instruction can be helpful in helping you lose weight when added to an additional exercise program. There is no doubt that Yoga can assist you in many ways. It will aid you in building strength and toning your muscles, as well as help you feel better about your body.
Though Yoga instruction can be extremely beneficial to any weight loss efforts, it may not increase your heart rate enough to be the sole exercise program that you rely on to shed those extra pounds. To lose weight, you must eat right and burn calories by doing exercise that raises your heart rate on a regular basis.
Yoga poses that are held for a number of minutes, with rest in between each pose, will build muscles and improve your posture, but will not give you the cardiovascular workout you need to lose weight.
To use Yoga instruction as a primary step in weight loss, it is necessary that you do at least a 90-minute Yoga workout as often as three times a week. In addition, it could be helpful if you combine your Yoga instruction with another form of workout such as walking or aerobics to help you achieve your weight loss goal.
Though you may need additional forms of exercise to lose weight, there are still many ways in which Yoga can help you to lose weight and keep it off. Yoga is known to help relieve stress, and stress is one of the major contributing factors to eating disorders. If you can conquer stress and begin to feel good about yourself, you are halfway to obtaining your weight loss goal.
If you are new to Yoga, it is best to go with a beginning class in Yoga instruction. Here you will learn all the basics before progressing to the more advanced and rigorous forms of Yoga.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you will want to lose weight gradually so that you have a better chance of actually keeping it off. It is essential that you change your lifestyle habits in addition to any weight loss program. Remember, it is lifestyle that put those extra pounds on, and it is lifestyle that will help you take them off and keep them off. This is where Yoga instruction is most useful.
Yoga can help you with your self-image as well as many of the other problems that led to your weight gain in the first place.
Try Yoga instruction to help you obtain your weight loss goals.
